• Living with ADHD

    What is ADHD?

Having an ADHD Brain is wonderful and beautiful thing. We tend to have warm, empathetic and often quirky personalities. We have an ability to think creatively and offer a unique perpective on most things and a warmth and kindness that radiates outward. Most of us have a fabulous sense of humour.

But we face serious challenges too:

    • Poor emotion regulation & heightened intensity of emotions
    • Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria
    • Feeling misunderstood by everyone
    • Feeling guilty and shame for not being able to live up to societel norms
    • Not being able to sit still
    • Being disorganised and messy
    • Spending energy trying to ‘act neorotypical’ (masking) which can make us feel like we don’t know who really are
    • Destructive strategies such as substance abuse
    • Feeling overwhelmed, anxious & depressed
    • Rapid Mood swings
    • Losing our temper easily
    • Impulsivity and overspending
    • Difficulty with focussing and being eaily distracted
    • Forgetting things such a events, appointments and birthdays
    • Missing deadlines and procrastination
    • Getting lost
    • Losing things
    • Difficulty with following neurotypical norms in conversations so we often feel bad about interrupting, being loud, talking a lot and racing from one topic to the next
    • Feeling overly motivated then quickly losing interest
    • Difficulty maintaining relationships
